Development of a Stakeholder Engagement Plan and an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for the 1,200-hectare extension of the Glo-Djigbé industrial zone in Benin

Client : SIPI Bénin

Region / Country: Africa | Benin

Mission:

ARISE and the Republic of Benin have entered into a public-private partnership to set up an industrial zone, the GDIZ (Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone), and have founded the Société d’Investissement et de Promotion de l’Industrie Bénin (SIPI Bénin) to manage it. The GDIZ has an agro-industrial vocation and will offer investors and national and foreign companies serviced infrastructures and advantageous economic and financial conditions.

The mission concerns the 1,200-hectare extension zone. The main objective was to draw up a Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) and an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for this agro-industrial cluster project, in compliance with national legislation and International Finance Corporation (IFC) standards. These pre-project studies will help to anticipate and avoid, compensate for, mitigate or ameliorate potential impacts in collaboration with local stakeholders.

Results:

At the end of the service, the following deliverables were handed over to the customer:

  • Scoping note
  • Scoping Report and Terms of Reference
  • Stakeholder Engagement Plan
  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessment including Environmental and Social Management Plan
