Technical and Strategic Support for Strengthening the Curpahuasi Rural Community Trust Fund within the Framework of the Antapara Mining Project in Apurímac
Mission:
The mission consisted of providing comprehensive accompaniment to both Rio Tinto and the Curpahuasi community to optimize the trust fund’s management and strategic vision. Insuco deployed a specialized team, including a local facilitator and a fund leveraging specialist, to execute the following activities:Participatory Strengthening: We designed and facilitated workshops with trust fund stakeholders to define collective priorities and actions. This process ensured that the fund’s management remains rooted in the community’s real needs and territorial governance. Strategic Advisory: We worked directly with Rio Tinto to consolidate a vision focused on a non-transactional approach. This involved shifting the fund’s role towards a proactive manager of social investment rather than a passive payer.
Information Systematization: Insuco organized and analyzed all existing data provided by the client to identify opportunities for leveraging external resources. This helped in building a technical profile for the fund that attracts further investment and cooperation.
Results:
Operational Deliverables: The team produced a situational analysis of the trust fund, a set of strategic recommendations for future implementation, and a roadmap for resource mobilization.
The impact of this work allowed for the creation of a structured governance framework, reducing potential conflicts and increasing the efficiency of social spending. By standardizing the fund’s procedures and aligning them with territorial development goals, Insuco helped secure a more sustainable relationship between the mining project and the local population, moving beyond short-term benefits toward permanent regional growth.
