Design of propositions for the improvement of urban mobility at the eastern exit of Port-au-Prince for the Interministerial Committee on Land Use Planning (CIAT)

Client : Proparco (AFD Group)

Mission:

The consortium We Working for Environment, Insuco Haiti and Multicriteria Planning (MCRIT), was selected to support the CIAT’ Technical Secretariat and the actors involved in urban management, notably the Port-au-Prince City Hall, to propose urban planning solutions to improve urban mobility at the eastern exit of Port-au-Prince (Turgeau). This neighborhood has seen its historically residential status evolve into a commercial district since the 2010 earthquake, which has led to an explosion in the flow of vehicles and users. The approach is inspired by the principles of tactical urban planning or urban acupuncture, which aims to improve the functioning of the city by focusing on key points and allows, while positioning the user at the heart of the approach, to propose and experiment with rapid and inventive solutions.

Within the framework of this consortium, Insuco’s mission was to carry out consultations with land use planning professionals on the planning proposals developed in the framework of the study. Two (2) workshops were organized by Insuco with Haitian urban planning professionals on the issues related to the traffic congestion in Turgeau and the definition of the solutions to be brought to these issues

Results:

: Insuco submitted the following deliverables as part of the mandate:

  • Workshop instrument ;
  • Workshop transcription;
  • Workshop agenda and reporting.
  • Summary of preliminary studies conclusions
