Recent and ongoing projects

Mission:

Insuco was commissioned by Société des Mines de Mandiana (SMM) to update the Social Baseline Study and associated Social Management Plans for the TRI-K gold mining project in Guinea. The six-month assignment included a two-week field mission involving a senior anthropologist, a social safeguards specialist, two national stakeholder engagement specialists, and a team of supervisors and surveyors.

The assignment was based on consultations with authorities, SMM employees and local communities across the project’s 14 localities, as well as field observations and consideration of the activities of artisanal miners in areas overlapping with the mining concession.

Results:

The assignment resulted in an updated Social Baseline Study and revised Social Management Plans, strengthening their operational relevance and supporting SMM’s compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Update of the Social Baseline Study for the TRI-K project.
• Revision of the Social Management Plans, including the Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Local Content Plan, Cultural Heritage Management Plan, Migration Management Plan, Artisanal Gold Mining
• Management Plan and Community Health and Safety Plan.
• Development of operational recommendations based on field realities, improving the management of social impacts and engagement with local communities.
• Strengthening of regulatory compliance and the effectiveness of SMM’s social management procedures.

Extra Mile
Insuco placed particular emphasis on the practical implementation of the Social Management Plans, combining SMM’s overall strategy with the local socio-economic context. The approach focused on the management and compensation of the actual impacts of mining activities, moving beyond a donation-based approach towards operational Social Management Plans that are aligned with the company’s responsibilities and the realities of the project area.
