Update of the master plan for mining ancillary infrastructures

Client : Setec International

Region / Country: Africa | Guinea
Services: Studies

Mission:

Within the framework of the Mining Governance Support Project (PAGSEM), the Ministry of Mines and Geology (MMG) mandated Setec International to update the mining ancillary infrastructure master plan (Schéma Directeur des Infrastructures Auxiliaires aux Mines – SDIAM). Subsequently, Setec mandated Insuco to realise the social and environmental study. The objectives of the mission were to provide a situational analysis of the infrastructures in 2 major cities of Guinea (Boké and Kamsar), to study the master schemes of these infrastructures and to clarify the problems related to fishing activities, as well as the cumulative impacts of the different mining projects in the area, in order to measure potential needs in terms of migratory flow management (mainly job search) and infrastructure projects that will have to be carried out by municipalities.

The five-day mission in Guinea consisted in:

  • Reviewing the context and in particular the SDIAM
  • Completing the question list to be addressed to the mining companies
  • Producing a question list to be addressed to Guinean administrations
  • Meeting all the relevant stakeholders

Results:

The following documents were delivered:

  • An addition to the question list to be addressed to mining companies
  • A question list to be addressed to Guinean administrations
  • The chapter related to environmental impacts for the SDIAM update
