Strengthening the Corporate Territorial Responsibility (CTR) approach for sustainable and inclusive governance in extractive regions of Ecuador and Colombia

Client: Ford Foundation

Mission:

Insuco was engaged to design and implement the Territorial Observatories under the Territorial Corporate Responsibility (TCR) approach, with the objective of generating robust, participatory, and actionable evidence on territorial transformations in extractive contexts. The client expected a comprehensive system capable of integrating quantitative and qualitative data, supporting multi-actor dialogue, and measuring both territorial change and the effectiveness of collective action processes. Our multidisciplinary team worked in close collaboration with Fundación Ford, extractive companies, and local stakeholders in Colombia and Ecuador, combining expertise in territorial governance, social research, and impact evaluation. The mission involved structuring a replicable observatory model, developing analytical tools and indicator systems, and facilitating processes of social appropriation of information by local actors.

Results:

Key deliverables included the full design and implementation of the Observatorio de Transformaciones Territoriales (OTT), a methodological framework composed of five modules, and a comprehensive implementation guide for dialogue and collective action processes. Two advanced indicator matrices were developed, including more than 300 indicators across multiple dimensions, as well as a territorial transformation index (ITT) to synthesize complex dynamics. Additional outputs included territorial studies, trend analysis, case studies, and tools for communication and knowledge dissemination such as infographics, reports, videos, webinars, and a dedicated web platform.
