Regional research study: impacts of the Lake Chad Basin crisis on land tenure – Resilac Project

Mission:

Within the framework of the “RESILAC” project, Insuco has been mandated to study land tenure dynamics in the Lake Chad region, identify approaches and practices that are conducive to resilience and elaborate adapted tools to be implemented in the context of intervention of the project. The specific objectives of the study were as follows:  

  • multidimensional identification of regional/national land tenure issues;
  • mapping of project territories, its agro-ecological areas and potentialities;
  • analysis of access to property, the regulation and protection of land tenure;
  • inventory of local and national systems;
  • analysis of conflicts in the project area in their historical, socio-political and economic dimensions;
  • supporting agile decision-making.

Results:

Insuco provided the client with the following services and deliverables:

  • a scoping report of the study;
  • a methodology note including a synthesis of the scientific literature review and data collection tools;
  • a study report, based on socio-economic data collection (2 surveyors per country + national experts): public consultations, household surveys, focus groups with vulnerable populations (women, youth, elderly, etc.). The information collected mainly concerned administrative organisation and local governance, land tenure, public infrastructure and services, cultural heritage, and the socio-economic profile of the area;
  • tools for disseminating research results (synthesis of key messages, recommendations);
  • 2 workshops in N’Djaména (to launch the project and validate the results of the study).
