Program of strengthening of capacities in conservation and socio-productive development, community environment, environment and human rights (II Edition)
Mission:
Gran Tierra required Insuco to implement a capacity building plan to generate a relationship of trust between the client and the communities located in the area of direct influence, in the province of Sucumbíos, General Farfán parish. The plan, which was applied for the second time, was also meant to contemplate the strengthening of social management processes with stakeholders through the formation of a Transparency Committee, under the participatory monitoring approach. A culturally appropriate capacity-building program was designed and implemented for communities in the area of direct influence of the oil & gas project. The programme consisted of three modules including: i) conservation and development, ii) values and relationships, and iii) human rights and the environment. In addition, through the capacity building program, potential positive leaders are identified in the community with a focus on empowering the vulnerable population that includes women and youth.
Results:
Insuco implemented the following activities:
- Review and analysis of available information;
- Initial engagement with local communities;
- Identification of key positive stakeholders;
- Delivery of the Development and Conservation module;
- Delivery of the Values and Relationships module;
- Delivery of the Human Rights and Environment module;
- Assessment of the capacity-building process;
- Awarding of certificates of participation to attendees;
- Establishment of a Transparency Committee.
