Design and Delivery of a Training Program on Quality and Origin Labels for Inclusive Territorial Development in Paipa, Boyacá - Colombia

Mission:
Insuco supported Swisscontact and Artesanías de Colombia in strengthening capacities on quality and origin labels as tools for inclusive territorial development. Our mission was to design and deliver a practical training program for public and private stakeholders. By combining technical content with hands-on workshops and dialogue spaces, we enhanced understanding, ownership, and application of these instruments.
The client, Swisscontact and Artesanías de Colombia, aims to promote inclusive territorial development by strengthening the use of quality and origin labels linked to local products and cultural heritage. The project was implemented in Paipa, Boyacá, a region with strong artisanal and agro-food traditions, where local knowledge and identity play a key role in economic development. In this context, there is a growing need to enhance the understanding and use of certification tools to increase product value, market access, and social impact. The client required support to build capacities among public officials and private actors, ensuring a shared understanding of these instruments and their potential to drive sustainable and inclusive territorial development.
Results:
Insuco was engaged to design and deliver a practical training program that would strengthen the understanding and application of quality and origin labels among public officials and private stakeholders. The client expected a structured learning process combining technical knowledge with actionable tools to promote these instruments as drivers of inclusive territorial development.
Our multidisciplinary team worked in coordination with Swisscontact and Artesanías de Colombia, integrating expertise in territorial development, value chains, and capacity building. The mission focused on translating complex certification frameworks into accessible content, fostering dialogue between stakeholders, and linking theory with real territorial dynamics.
Key deliverables included the design of training modules, development of pedagogical materials, and the implementation of a one-week training program with participatory workshops in Boyacá. The program also culminated in a public seminar co-organized with academia, expanding outreach and knowledge exchange.
This work contributes to strengthening local capacities to leverage quality and origin labels, improving product differentiation, market access, and value creation. It also fosters stronger articulation between public and private actors, supporting more inclusive and sustainable territorial development strategies.
Insuco implemented a highly participatory, practice-oriented training approach, combining workshops, real case analysis, and multi-stakeholder dialogue. A key added value was bridging technical certification concepts with local realities, enabling immediate application. The final seminar expanded impact by engaging a broader audience, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening institutional and territorial collaboration.
