Design and Implementation of Participatory Workshops on Mine Closure and Continuity of Economic Activities for the Yanacocha Mine Closure Plan in Cajamarca

Mission:
Insuco executed a comprehensive five-phase mandate to manage the social dimensions of the closure process. Initially, the team conducted a planning and alignment phase to synchronize objectives with Yanacocha’s community relations department. This was followed by a robust methodological design, where Insuco co-constructed a tailored roadmap and pedagogical materials, ensuring that complex technical information was accessible and culturally appropriate for the local context.
Results:
The mission involved the following key activities and deliverables:
- Methodological Plan: Developed a joint strategy for 7 “Closure and Continuity” workshops, including guiding questions and dynamic validation.
- Communication Content: Produced didactic materials and key messages aligned with corporate standards and Peruvian legislation.
- Field Preparation: Conducted team inductions and enabled environments to ensure a professional and safe workshop delivery.
- Implementation: Facilitated 7 workshops across the area of influence, directly engaging with community members and local authorities.
- Systematization: Delivered a preliminary and a final report containing a global balance of results, conclusions, and strategic recommendations.
The mission successfully gathered direct expectations regarding water management, socio-economic transition, and environmental restoration. By applying participatory methods, Insuco provided the client with a clear evidence base to refine their closure strategy, ensuring that the transition reflects the priorities of the 1,000+ participants involved in the process.
