Evaluation of land use and purpose in the context of communities associated with resettlement processes

Client : Hudbay

Mission:

The Hudbay mining company mandated Insuco to carry out an assessment of the purpose and use of land in the Quinsachata territory, the demand and supply of water resources, and the needs for hydraulic infrastructure to enable the development of agricultural activity. At the end of this assessment, a report was submitted to Hudbay, summarizing the conclusions of the study and presenting a general proposal for the development of agricultural activity in this territory, accompanied by solutions to improve the water balance of the region and encourage community participation.

Insuco implemented the following activities:

  • Hydrological and geomorphological characterization of the territory of Quinsachata (physical characterization, in terms of climate, land use capacity and geomorphological characteristics);
  • Collection of meteorological data (20 years back in time), such as: rainfall, maximum, average and minimum temperatures, relative humidity, solar radiation, wind speed, etc. from the Observation Network of the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru, concerning the study area.

Results:

The following deliverables were provided to the client:

A study report, based on:

  • A literature review
  • The collection of secondary data
  • The elaboration of survey sheets
  • The elaboration of soil characterization sheets
  • The collection of on-site primary data, and georeferencing
  • An inventory of water resources
  • The collection of soil samples and their analysis in laboratory
  • The systematization and analysis of all the information collected

This final report was also accompanied by thematic maps of the region, as well as proposals for land use and agricultural development.
