Mission:

The EU-German Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems in Cambodia (EU-German CAPSAFE), co-financed by the European Union and BMZ and implemented by GIZ, aims to promote green growth and decent employment through sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural value chains. It focuses on the cashew and pepper sectors, seeking to improve their sustainability, competitiveness, inclusiveness, and local added value.

The project is structured around three main objectives: (i) strengthening institutional capacities in food security, climate-resilient agriculture, and decent work; (ii) improving the profitability of cashew and pepper production through sustainable, deforestation-free practices; and (iii) enhancing the capacity of agrifood MSMEs and industry associations to meet ASEAN and high-end market standards. Activities are implemented in Kratie and Kampong Thom provinces (cashew) and Kampot and Tboung Khmum provinces (pepper).

Within this framework, a mission in Stung Treng seeks to analyse the drivers of deforestation linked to cashew expansion and to identify solutions to mitigate impacts, aiming to prevent further deforestation and promote practices that reconcile economic development with environmental protection.
