Comprehensive Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) for the Acquisition of a Strategic Oil Refinery in Talara, Incorporating International ESG Standards for Responsible Asset Management

Mission:
Insuco deployed a specialized technical team, including Social and Environmental Experts, to conduct a comprehensive Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) over a period of one month. The mission focused on assessing the alignment of the refinery’s operations with ESG criteria and managing potential compliance risks. The team followed a rigorous methodology that involved:
- Exhaustive Documentary Review: Analyzing all existing environmental permits, social impact assessments, and regulatory filings related to the Talara refinery.
- Stakeholder Consultations: Conducting exploratory interviews with key management teams from both Albanesi and PetroPerú to understand operational history and current challenges.
- Risk Identification: Pinpointing critical “red flags” and potential social or environmental liabilities that could impact the acquisition or future operations.
Results:
The work was performed with a high level of technical detail, resulting in the production of:
- Detailed Work Plan: Outlining the scope and timeline of the evaluation.
- Documentary Review Status Report: A clear tracking of available vs. missing information.
- Technical Memo on Critical Issues: A strategic document highlighting key findings, social-environmental risks, and recommendations for mitigation.
Our intervention provided the clients with the necessary non-financial intelligence to make informed investment decisions. By scoring ESG indicators and evaluating the “red flags,” Insuco helped Albanesi and Gramercy strengthen their investment case, ensuring that the acquisition was not only financially sound but also socially and environmentally responsible in the eyes of international investors and local regulators.
