Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) for the preparation of financing for the Legacy Landscapes Fund in the Madidi Protected Area, located in Bolivia.

Mission:
Insuco’s mission was to deploy an independent ESDD to analyze the management of the Madidi Protected Area. We evaluated the biological, physical, socio-economic, and cultural context of the project to identify potential impacts resulting from WCS’s management. The team scrutinized existing documentation and stakeholder consultation processes against international standards. Key activities included:
- Preliminary Document Review: Analyzing international norms and relevant management information for the area.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Conducting field data collection with territorial stakeholders, including indigenous communities, government authorities, and local residents.
- Gap Analysis: Identifying discrepancies between current social and environmental management and international safeguards.
- Risk Evaluation: Prioritizing risks and developing a concrete Action Plan to address identified gaps, considering WCS’s organizational capacity.
Results:
The mission produced several critical deliverables, such as a preliminary findings report, an updated work plan, and a comprehensive ESDD report. This final document included a detailed risk assessment, a gap analysis, and a structured “Gap Attention Plan” with clear responsibilities and execution schedules. Our team consisted of an International Project Director specialized in international socio-environmental norms and local experts in conservation and park management. This approach ensured a balance between global standards and deep local understanding of the Bolivian context.
