Comparative study of household cooking practices using LPG and solid fuels in rural and urban areas of Guinea

Client : Litasco

Region / Country: Africa | Guinea
Sectors: Oil & gas
Services: Studies

Mission:

In Guinea, almost all households use solid fuels to cook, the part of the population using LPG to cook is very small (0,2 % of households). The company Litasco wants to develop the LPG market in Guinea by importing gas by sea to a depot located in Kamsar, in the Prefecture of Boké, in order to deliver gas cylinders throughout the country.

After carrying out market and feasibility studies, Litasco wanted to carry out an overall study on social and environmental benefits which would be generated by the introduction of LGP in cooking practices in Guinea. Insuco was thus mandated to carry out the social part of this study, which was developed following three axes: time saved by the households, health risks and individuals’ perceptions regarding the use of gas.

Results:

A report evaluating the social impact of LPG as an alternative to solid fuels was produced. The following dimensions were investigated: health, annual earned time, potential hazards, habit and household perception.
