Implementation of a Social Management Plan and stakeholder engagement strategy for the Antapata and Los Evas mining projects to ensure operational continuity and regulatory compliance

Client: Rio Tinto Mining and Exploration SAC Peru
Sectors: Mining

Mission:

Insuco supported Rio Tinto in Peru by designing and implementing a comprehensive Social Management Plan (SMP) for the Antapata and Los Evas exploration projects in Apurímac. Our mission focused on building trust with local communities and institutional actors to ensure stable social conditions. By aligning field operations with global corporate standards, Insuco provided the strategic social framework necessary to secure exploration permits and support future investment decisions.

Results:

 Key activities included:

  • Territorial Analysis: We conducted a deep socio-political diagnosis of the area of influence to identify strategic actors and potential conflict triggers.
  • Social Management Plan (SMP): Insuco designed and executed a plan that included formal grievance and claim procedures, ensuring transparent response channels for the community.
  • Land Access Protocols: We developed and implemented procedures to coordinate land access with local communities, directly enabling the execution of planned technical activities.
  • Operational Support: Our team provided constant community relations support during drilling campaigns and technical studies, contributing to the projects’ operational continuity.
  • Data Intelligence: All field information was systematized and analyzed to generate strategic insights, supporting Rio Tinto’s decision-making processes for the short, medium, and long term.

The team involved specialized social experts and field leads who managed the relationship between the technical requirements of the mine and the social expectations of the territory over a 12-month period.
