Comprehensive update of the Community Development Plan for San Francisco de Asís de Yarusyacán, an indigenous community within the influence area of Nexa Resources' Atacocha and El Porvenir mines

Mission:
Insuco deployed a specialized team, including a Project Director and a Community Development Plan Advisor, to execute a 13-week technical assistance mission. The team followed a rigorous three-phase methodology to ensure international standards of social management were met.
- Alignment and Characterization: The team began by conducting an exhaustive documentary review and interviews with Nexa personnel to align corporate objectives with the legal and social context of the Yarusyacán community.
- Evaluation and Diagnosis: This phase involved extensive field work in the Pasco region. The team conducted over 25 in-depth interviews and administered 50 questionnaires to community members. This participatory diagnosis captured the community’s current socio-economic status and their “desired future,” ensuring the plan was rooted in local reality.
- Co-construction and Roadmap: Insuco facilitated co-creation workshops where community members and Nexa representatives collaboratively defined development priorities.
Results:
Throughout the process, Insuco produced detailed activity reports and a comprehensive updated Community Development Plan. The mission concluded with the delivery of a clear implementation roadmap. This roadmap defined specific responsibilities and timelines, providing Nexa with a strategic tool to manage its social commitments effectively. The impact of this work lies in the creation of a shared vision for the territory, reducing potential for conflict and maximizing the positive social footprint of the mining operations through 2024 and beyond.
