The conglomerate Barrick Gold and Newmont Goldcorp recently announced the extension of the Pueblo Viejo mine activity beyond 2040. To do so, an expansion of the mine site is to be carried out over a total of 2,639 additional hectares. It is expected that this expansion will lead to a significant number of displacements and resettlements and will impact the economic activities of the twenty-four (24) communities living in the area concerned by the project. It is currently estimated that 600 households could be affected, either by physical or economic displacement.<\/p>\n

Insuco has been selected to develop and implement the Resettlement Action Plan and propose a Livelihood Restoration Plan for the areas concerned, which are mainly agricultural.<\/p>\n
