Today, the country has 4 Ramsar sites, including site 1018 of the Lower Ou\u00e9m\u00e9 Valley \/ Porto-Novo Lagoon \/ Lake Nokou\u00e9 with a surface area of 91,600 ha.<\/p>\n<p>The special status of this area, due to the fragility of its ecosystems, its richness in terms of biological biodiversity, as well as its socio-economic importance for the nearby populations, requires that a thorough anthropological and environmental study be carried out on the entire territory of Porto Novo and its peripheral towns.
