Insuco has been assigned by PNM to implement a baseline study of the park\u2019s situation, collecting pertinent data in order to guide its strategic planning in terms of environmental conservation and support towards local communities, as well as to help defining actions to enhance direct and indirect socio-economic benefits of the park and biodiversity protection. This study should also allow PNM to report on the evolution of its surface, on the improvements regarding poverty reduction, demographics, productive sectors\u2019 development (fishing, agriculture, tourism, etc.), and on its impacts on the local economy and populations\u2019 living conditions.<\/p>\n

The study\u2019s perimeter concerns all of the PNM\u2019s territory (including marine, coastal, and land-based areas), as well as administrative areas of the Island of Moheli, on the surroundings of the protected zone and where village communities\u2019 representatives are located. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Insuco proposes to conduct a socio-economic survey of 300 households, as well as qualitative surveys in order to allow: social and land tenure analysis; key productive sectors analysis; an analysis of the perception of natural and cultural heritage, as well as of the representations of the park\u2019s role; an analysis of behaviors and daily practices towards the environment; stakeholders mapping.<\/p>\n

The corresponding deliverables are as follow:<\/p>\n

  • A temporary report summarizing: literature review; surveys\u2019 results;<\/li>\n
  • A final report presenting: (i) the context and different analyses, supported by data tables, indicators and tendencies\u2019 explanations; (ii) three possible monitoring mechanisms; and (iii) documented indicators defining the baseline;<\/li>\n
  • A summary report picturing the socio-economic situation of the PNM, with an action plan for the implementation of the chosen monitoring mechanism and its provisional cost by activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
