Conducting a land rights and social organisation study - FAO

As part of a project to develop an irrigation scheme in Saday (Obock region), carry out a baseline assessment of the social phenomena governing the use of the resource areas concerned in order to develop a detailed understanding of land tenure rights and how local management methods have adapted to the on-going planning process; also, use this information to create a frame of reference for future irrigation schemes that are to be developed.

The client received a report that included a typology of the customary land rights in use within the irrigation scheme area, a general description of the local social set-up and its impact on farming activities, recommendations for managing the irrigation scheme and a framework to be applied to all future WFP-funded irrigation schemes.
